Paul Mow, General Manager & Artistic Director – The GhostLight Theatre Tonight we all stand to applaud these efforts but it indeed takes a village to get us here. Every single member of this cast, crew, volunteers in set building, box office, front of house, board members, donors, and you our patrons have worked hard just to get here for opening night. Producing a vitally important piece of theatre such as Cabaret is a benchmark for any theatre, and we as cast and crew have certainly felt the gravity of that as the days towards our opening have crept closer and closer. Cabaret not only shows us why it’s important to look back and recognize how much we’ve all fought just to have our base freedoms, but also that those who gave their lives for those freedoms need celebrating as well. So often in the immediacy of the moment, we tend to only see what’s directly in front of us, what we don’t have, and what others have that we perceive as greener grass on the other side of the fence. Since you are spending 2+ hours with us in this safe space tonight at The GhostLight, we want to also celebrate YOU, our patrons, for being willing to have these critical conversations about the sensitive issues of sexuality, inclusion, fascism and learning important lessons from the past. We’ve all been through a lot over the past few years, and yet here we are, back at it! This production, these performers, this theatre and our entire SW Michigan community are absolutely deserving of celebration and we are glad you are here to do that with us tonight. Sally says it best in her summation, we need to do our best to find ways to celebrate life’s good moments, even throughout the darkest of times. life is a Cabaret old chum, come to the Cabaret!” – Sally Bowles, Act II “No use permitting some prophet of doom, to wipe ev’ry smile away….
